Update (3/29/25)

On March 25, after his vote on HB 148, Representative Wheeler was summoned to a League of Women Voters (LWV) “listening session.” Despite the LWV’s complete departure from neutrality and egregious failure to control the session, Representative Wheeler retained his composure and engaged thoughtfully with all in attendance. LGB Courage Coalition has an excellent summary and critique of the session here. Jamie Reed/LGB Courage Coalition and Kara Dansky, who were present, offer additional thoughtful commentary here and here. Much of the session can be viewed here and here.

On March 27, Representative Wheeler continued to demonstrate his courage and leadership:

>Representative Wheeler was one of only two Democrats who broke with his party to vote for HB 377, which “prohibits the performance of a medical procedure or the prescription or issuance of medication, upon or to a minor child, that is intended to alter the minor child’s gender or delay puberty.”

>Representative Wheeler was the sole member of his party to vote for HB 712, which “limits breast surgeries for minors and provides a private right of action against the surgeon for violation of the statute.”

The bill texts and roll call votes may be found here and here. The live stream of the discussion on the floor is here.

Please thank him for his ongoing courage in breaking ranks with his party in support of common sense measures and let him know we have his back.

Subject line: Thank you for your continued courage and leadership!

Dear Representative Wheeler:

I am a [Democrat/feminist/lifelong liberal], and I am writing to thank you for your floor speech and votes for HB 148 and HB 619 and your votes for HB 377 and HB 712. I also want to offer thanks and admiration for your thoughtful, forthright engagement with constituents at the League of Women Voters event on March 25, 2025. I am grateful for the leadership you have shown throughout and hope other Democrats pay attention to your fine example and follow your lead.

As I know you are aware, it took a lot of hard work to obtain the rights necessary for women and girls to achieve full potential in all realms of public life. It has been heartbreaking to see those rights so severely eroded by my own party in recent times. It has been yet more heartbreaking to witness my party support medical interventions for minors that have no sound medical basis and that result in permanent harm to children’s bodies.

While I do not live in New Hampshire, I felt it important to let you know how much your support for these bills means to me, as it does for many, many people I know.

With grateful thanks,
