Mission Statement

ROAR Women NYC seeks to restore women’s spaces, protect women’s rights, and build women’s community in the NYC metro area.

ROAR is a lesbian-founded group initially formed to oppose the extreme misogyny and homophobia of the men’s sexual entitlement movement known as gender ideology. However, after watching legacy organizations not only refuse to stand unabashedly for women’s rights but refuse to even admit they know what a woman is, we have expanded our mission to address other neglected forms of women’s oppression.

We are a nonpartisan grassroots women’s volunteer organization. Currently, ROAR accepts gifts from individuals, has no major funders, and is not affiliated with any other organization.

We agree on the following.

  • Women:
    • Are adult female humans
    • Are oppressed on the basis of their sex
    • Are not commodities or ideas
    • Require single-sex intimate spaces for them to fully participate in society
    • Require supportive women’s communities to help them break out of the conditioning that keeps them confused, silent, and inactive
    • Deserve respect and protection for their plurality of thought, freedom of speech, and freedom of belief

  • Gender ideology:
    • Is an active, direct threat to the rights of women and girls
    • Is deeply misogynistic and homophobic
    • Is incoherent and anti-science
    • Is spread through coercion by wealthy interest groups
    • Can be best understood as a quasi-religious cult
    • Does not honor plurality of thought, freedom of speech, or freedom of belief
    • Causes irreparable and unnecessary harm to society
    • Created “transgenderism” as a social construct. That is, “transgender” identities are neither ingrained nor innate
    • Should not have its principles enshrined in law, since that violates the First Amendment

  • Lesbians:
    • Exist
    • Are women who are exclusively attracted to women
    • Have the right to form closed spaces and communities
    • Have the right to advocate for themselves as a political class
    • Deserve freedom from rape culture, especially from men who claim to be women who shame lesbians for sexually rejecting them

To stand for women, we:

Act to promote women’s plurality of thought, free speech, freedom of belief, and artistic brilliance.

Will always be a women-only group.

Will disband when our advocacy is no longer needed.

Politically advocate for women’s rights by hosting rallies and protests, submitting and delivering public comment, leading calls to action, creating public education materials, and more.

Recognize that prostitution and pornography are mechanisms of women’s oppression, and fight against rape culture and sexual objectification.

Rebuild women’s community, defend women’s spaces, and lend support to other women.

Support the girls who will become women by shielding them from grooming in public schools.
